Lynette Roesch is a lifelong learner who frequently uses LinkedIn Learning for her personal and professional growth.
She has taken 58 LinkedIn courses, including training in communication, time management and critical thinking, and most recently, in support of diversity and inclusion.
“Continuing to learn is important to me personally,” said Roesch, administrative assistant at Duke Graduate School. “In addition, continuing to develop skills is essential to improve my performance at work.”
Duke staff, faculty and students have access to over 16,000 video tutorials for free through Learning LinkedIn. The platform’s library includes courses in business, software, wellness, creative topics, and more. Additionally, LinkedIn Learning can help with remote working and virtual teams with instructions on Zoom, Skype, and other collaboration tools.

How to start
Duke staff, faculty and students should log in to LinkedIn Learning for the first time here using their Duke email, NetID and password.
If you are an employee of Duke Health, you will need to disconnect from network or VPN and use Duke Guest or home Wi-Fi to access LinkedIn Learning.
Users have the option to connect their existing LinkedIn profile, create a new account, or use LinkedIn Learning without a LinkedIn profile.
Connected LinkedIn profiles provide users with more personalized content recommendations on LinkedIn Learning.
Personalize your learning
LinkedIn Learning allows you to slow down or speed up lessons, activate closed captioning, read with a transcript, and download content to desktop or mobile devices without WiFi for later viewing.
Tecca Wright, Project Planner for the Department of Neurosurgery, uses LinkedIn Learning to take courses on “Excel: in-depth pivot tables; “”Monday Productivity Pointers; ” and “Presentation of the PMBOK Guide – Seventh edition», A project management resource, to help it have a positive impact on its productivity.
She scans the transcripts for specific advice and recently looked at “Building solutions using Excel and Access 2019 together”For a step-by-step video tutorial on Steps Recorder, a tool Wright uses to record tutorials on Microsoft products.
“I like having a transcript available so I can browse through the content to find what is most relevant,” she said.
Comprehensive topic reading lists
Learning Paths are curated listings of related video courses that help users focus on specific topics such as web development, enhancing creativity, management, personal finance, and resilience.
Learning Paths take a topic deeper to give users in-depth experience of a specific skill. A learning journey, “Develop your presentation skills, ”Includes nearly six hours of instruction in public speaking, building credibility and designing a presentation.
“Completing a learning path shows your colleagues that you’ve spent a lot of time learning a new skill,” Clarke said.
Roesch, administrative assistant at Duke Graduate School, followed a learning path on “How to engage meaningfully in the alliance and the fight against racism, ”So that she can better help guests visiting the doctoral school.
She took five classes, totaling two hours, on how to develop an inclusive mindset, advocate for change and have an effective dialogue about race in the workplace.
“We have people from all over the world calling us and visiting us,” Roesch said. “I want to position myself to be so welcoming and helpful to all who need it.”
Users find learning paths by searching on LinkedIn for a specific topic, then clicking “Learning Paths” on the left side of the screen under the “Type” menu.
Prepare for professional certifications
On-demand courses help users prepare for free professional certification exams and continuing education units through partnerships with Adobe, Salesforce, the Society for Human Resource Management, and other organizations.
You can prepare a commercial drone license with the Federal Aviation Administration, investigate how data analysis with Certified Analytics Professional and practical graphic design before becoming certified in Adobe Photoshop.
Elma Clarke of LinkedIn Learning said professional certifications and continuing education units help job seekers with career opportunities, but prep courses can cost up to $ 500 outside of LinkedIn Learning.
“It can be expensive to learn, and this barrier can prevent someone from taking the next step in their career path,” she said.

Certificates can be downloaded, printed or uploaded to your LinkedIn profile.
“You can keep track of the skills you’ve observed in career management and share them with your manager,” Clarke said.
Benjamin Scoggin, Deputy Director of Clinical Engineering for Duke Health Technology Solutions, shared the 10 certificates he earned on his LinkedIn profile. Scoggin recently completed courses on “Balance multiple roles as a leader; “”Create your IT strategy; ” and “The six morning habits of great performers. ”
