How to Use the LinkedIn Learning App to Boost Your Skills

LinkedIn Learning is the social network’s contribution to digital education. You may be more familiar with the web version, but the mobile app is also worth checking out.

You get the same variety of professional tools and courses, but in a smaller, more convenient layout. Here’s everything you can do to boost your skills with the LinkedIn Learning app, available on Android and iOS.

1. Find the LinkedIn learning course you need

When you open the app, navigate to the home screen, where you’ll find a selection of featured resources, not unlike LinkedIn Learning on your browser.

Scroll down to the top-rated LinkedIn Learning courses or go straight for something that matches your existing skills. The app will automatically make suggestions based on your LinkedIn profile information.

You can then filter them and choose the most promising additions to your resume. For example, think about what would grab the attention of employers and help demonstrate your transferable skills.

You also have access to live sessions on different professional topics, 30-minute flash lessons, and educational articles from the LinkedIn community.

Finally, if you press the Topics , you will get additional filtering tools. To get started, you can choose between Business, Creative, and Technology subjects. Each option will give you a list of related courses.

USE VIDEO OF THE DAY

Of Topics screen, you can also discover courses that prepare you for professional exams with Adobe, Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, and many other organizations.

2. Go to your course and complete it

Getting the most out of LinkedIn Learning is slightly different on the app. The limited screen space makes everything more compact, but you still have plenty of functionality.

Enter a course and you will get an intro video and three tabs. Insight explains what you are learning and who is teaching you, as well as how many users have taken the same course. The app will also feature similar content.

In the Content tab are the teaching aids of the course. It can be videos, quizzes, exercises, handouts – whatever the provider thinks will help you learn faster. You can follow them in the order listed or jump directly to the materials that interest you.

Some features are free, others require a subscription. A one-month free trial is offered, then you have to pay a monthly or yearly fee. The final section of each course is Questions and answers. Here you can read questions and comments from other students or leave your own while taking the course.

Additional tools include the ability to download the course, have the videos play their audio only, and have access to learning groups and certificates.

3. Keep track of your classes and skills

The LinkedIn Learning app compiles your courses into the My apprenticeship section. Whether they’re completed, in progress, or just saved, you’ll find them all here.

In addition to reviewing course content, you can add skills for the app to use and make suggestions. While exploring the best LinkedIn Learning courses for job seekers, let the platform guide you in its own way.

Just tap the arrow next to your profile picture and name in My apprenticeship. Then, from the Skills that interest you field, select Edit > Add more skills. Finally, type and choose the most attractive skills. Your app’s home screen will start adding courses that match your preferences.

LinkedIn Learning can improve your skills and your network

The best part about using LinkedIn Learning is that it’s attached to your profile, which you can easily update with your new skills and connections. The app itself is versatile and very user-friendly, especially if you invest in its premium content.

If you’re not an avid LinkedIn user, you might want to look into other e-learning options. For the best possible experience, compare all available platforms and their offerings.
