Since the start of the pandemic, many workplaces have moved to a virtual model.
As someone who works from home all the time, it can be difficult to find a balance to stay productive with so many demands on your time and attention. As much as I love the flexibility of saving time and money on commuting, I also live with my family, which means I often feel distracted and find it difficult to return to work. when I am interrupted. 3 things I liked about time management: working from home
- You learn to prevent your working hours from affecting the rest of your life.
Crenshaw says the number one challenge for those who work from home is their inability to mentally and emotionally disconnect from work. He recommends a “transition time” after your work to help you decompress and stop thinking about work to make the mental transition to family life.
I have found it very helpful to meditate during my transition period, which helps me relax from work and calm my mind while I spend time with my loved ones for the rest of the day.
- You can better maximize your productivity in virtual meetings.
Sometimes I’m tired and easily distracted when it comes to the last ones
meetings at the end of the day. Crenshaw recommends giving your coworkers your full attention during the video meeting, which can be accomplished with small things like turning off your email notifications during the meeting or making eye contact with people directly to focus.
One strategy that has helped me minimize distractions during meetings is to keep my phone away and volunteer to send recap emails during the meeting, which forces me to stay focused.
- You understand how to create crucial boundaries with your loved ones.
Navigating while working from home can be a challenge when you live with others. It’s important to make time in your schedule for your loved ones and let them know what your work schedule looks like, according to Crenshaw.
As a freelance writer with a flexible schedule, I now work with my family members at the start of each week to create a designated schedule that works for me while respecting their needs. This way, they commit to not interrupting me except in an emergency, and I commit to spending quality time together.
The bottom line
I was amazed at how much I learned over the past few weeks on how I can change my habits to stay more productive and focused on the job.
By the end of the course, you will be able to navigate working from home by managing your time wisely, from setting boundaries with your co-workers and loved ones to working out a set schedule to maximize productivity.
Personally, it has helped me to build stronger boundaries with those close to me and to create a real boundary between my personal and professional life.
